    Question Dr. Watson 2.5 Gig

Trying to find a text editor to open the Dr Watson log file and see what may be the reason for a 2.5 gigabyte log file, ( user dmp is only 303kb) seeing that I just re-installed windows in the past 2 weeks, doesn't seem to me that it should be that big..
Tried the Programers File Editor, but ran completely out of memory, before it could finish- ( on the computer that is LoL )
Also, can it be safely deleted, since it is a log file, I do have an 80 gig hard drive, but if I can't open it, don't see the use in keeping it...
Running Xp Pro Sp2, and really have not noticed any major problems that would warrant a file that large, and would really love to see in side LoL
    Blessings To All
Ps: Stumbled on to it while checking for viruses and spywares, and seeing how long it was scanning the file, made me go check--Hmmm
    Thanks in advance

Just because a file cannot be opened or read by you doesn't mean it's safe to delete it -- if that was the criteria then you could delete half the files on your PC !

Safest way to deal with a file you are unsure about is to put it in the recycle bin (in other words a 'normal' delete rather than a shift-delete). If your PC and all your applications are still running okay after, say, a week, I think it's safe to delete it proper. If you start getting 'file missing' errors just open the bin and restore that file.

Dr. Watson are error logs. If you have no on-going crash issues deleting these logs is fine.

As seen in the below link the Drwtsn32.exe command from the Run... box offers options for the Doctor.

Thank you both for the speedy reply, and I am hip to the recycle bin, that is usually the first thing that I ask a customer, before cleaning out their computer, and they give the strangest look when asked if they are hiding anything in the recycle bin LoL
Nice to know that others do so as well, as I. Thanks for the reminder , usually forget with mine, and have paid dearly for it LoL
I figured it safe to delete just about any text file, but am curious as to the size and contents, or is it a normal thing for windows, or an oncoming event---Hmmm LoL
Am thinking, also, that I have installed amd un-installed many programs, to which I used to use safe try mode, but not much now, because I test a lot of programs before passing them on to customers to use, and it sometimes takes a while to find out what is and what isn't in a copatibility setting, exceeding the safe mode buffer, also have another computer, which I use for different Os's,
since this one seems to be specifically dell hardware designed for Xp (another post elsewhere in this forum), with, of course a clean (non dell) Xp Os
And have never seen a dr watson file or any text file that size in such a short time, and figured that if anyone did, it would be here, with a possible cause, I just didn't see that many errors..
Oh well, just a curiousity, and don't seem to be experiencing any issues that I am aware of, at this moment....Thanks again--and feel free to say "let it go and accept it"as windows.
Close this at your will, since there isn't really a technical issue here, just a curiousity.

Problem solved with a little program called V; it seems there was only one exception, which generated the 2.5 gigabyte file--Hmmm, seems to me that the doctor needs a specialist, guess it was just one of those things; again, I thank you for the help, and this one can be closed..
Oh, it was sygate that caused the exception when the computer resumed from standby, tried using the out post that you suggested elsewhere, but it is out of my league, so I was using my norton, which broke down again, so I am trying this comodo, which has the inbound/outboundfeatures that I was looking for, just can't believe the price LoL.
Maybe Jephree can start a thread called firewalls 101 LoL, because that and the Av scripting seem to elude me, on how to configure, even had to roll back my anti virus--hmm, the simple things in life.....
