Not sure if you guys can help me on this one. I recently had my video card die on me, not sure what caused it, but it just wouldn't work. My mobo made a series of beeps, one long, followed by 3 short, which I was told was video card problem. I tried reseating the card, and it didn't work. Long story short, I bought a new card. ait x1300 pro agp. I know it's not a great card, but I'm on a budget, and it'll do. Anyway, since installing this card, I've gotten 2 blue screen errors, they both appeared to be the same. I don't pretend to know much about the blue screen errors, but I know about the minidump files, and I have them if you would like to see them. The error stems from win32k.sys, which as I understand it deals with drivers. I can only suspect that this somehow relates to my new video card. I'm not sure exactly what is causing this though, and no idea how to fix it. I installed the newest catalyst driver from the ati website from the very beginning, because it was newer than the one included on the cd. Any pointers here? The only problem that I can think of, is that I did not uninstall my old drivers before installing the new ones, I wasn't able to. As soon as I booted up with the new card, it recognized it in device manager, and I couldn't figure out any other way to locate the old drivers. I did however uninstall my previous cards' version of the catalyst control panel. I dunno, let me know any other info you guys need to troubleshoot this. thanks.

just wanted to post an update before I go to bed. I followed some of the instructions in one of your other threads, and installed the MS debug tools, and generated the text logfile. Looks greek to me, but I did see a very large number of things that started with ati. Also, both crashes show nero showtime as a problem, which is my default video player, and was running both times I crashed. So, I think it's a pretty safe bet that the problem lies somewhere with my new video card. I just don't have a clue what to do about it. Would you like to see a copy of the logfile? I don't know if they are both identical, but they look very similar at least, and I probably had the same programs running both times anyway.

I would suggest using Driver Cleaner:

Then reinstall the latest Catalyst. Do not run either Download managers or Anti Virus while installing drivers. You may have to do this in Safe Mode with Networking.

Thanks, I went ahead and did that, and it seems to be working. I havn't had another bsod yet, and hopefully I won't. The new video card isn't really living up to my expectations though. It might just be my old mobo and processor though, I dunno. I tried playing need for speed most wanted, and I had to play at the lowest resolution, with medium settings, and it was still a tiny bit choppy. my old ati 9200 performed better. Here's the specs on my pc, I know my stuff is getting old, and my new vid card isn't top of the line or anything, I just expected more, what do you think?

edit - let me throw another minor problem at you, it's completely unrelated. I've got a dvd/cd burner that is about 2 years old, I don't recall the brand, but it was an offbrand. Anyway, the last 2 dvds that i've burned (as data discs), are not readable in my own drive. My friend's computer will read them just fine, but mine will not. My drive will read a storebought dvd though. I havn't really looked into this issue at all, like I said, it's not a big deal. Just thought I'd take this opportunity to ask someone smarter than me if you've got any clues on it? thanks again.
