What DVD burning software do you have?

XP in itself does not have this capability.

Have you ever used these particular disks on this machine?

Are you sure that they are compatible with the drive?

You might try formatting them first if they are compatible.

Insert then right click under My Computer and choose Format > Quick Format. (it may not be too quick).

I burn DVD's with Nero Express without any problem.

Two things you might want to check regarding the XP built in CD burner conflict:

Right click the DVD/CD drive then click Properties then Recording

Uncheck: Allow CD burning on this drive

This only shuts off the XP burner which is often a source of conflict.

Also go to Services: start Run... services.msc

    And disable: IMAPI CD burning...

Again this is the XP CD burner. If you have Nero there is no use for it and it often conflicts.
