Windows XP Theme Sound Ridiculous Problem
I have a problem with XP I don't know how it happened but all of sudden it happened first I lost my sound, then I lost my themes.
I did stop a service from Kodak before I did all this could this have affected it?
It's like it takes time for the theme to catch up but it has never done that before ever. And my sound has never disappeared like that before either. It's pretty much like this
when the theme is working the sound is not I've NEVER had this problem before what can it be?
I've reinstalled the sound driver and did two restore points one from yesterday and one that was on Monday. Yet still I have no sound.
-
There's always been a mutimedia audio controller or something of that nature that had a question mark but I always just disabled it well I reinstalled the driver for it and the sound works but the device could not start it says but now I have sound and themes.
I don't know how long it's gonna work though.
-
now I dont' have sound or themes. the themes come back sometimes but the sound still doesn't work.

Also what is the make and model of the computer?
-
I built the computer a year ago.
It's an Athlon XP 2400
768 MB of DDR Ram
I have the Nvidia LAN but because of problems with GTASA I've installed the Realtek AC97 Sound.
128 MB video card
but I think I may have fixed it I just restarted KCC which is Kodak Camera Connection back to startup and the themes and sound are all fine. The thing is I stopped the service and set it to manual the first time then the problems arose. Now I've set it back to automatic and everything works fine.
I just wanted to disable it because I hardly ever use the digital camera.
-
well it's doing it again.
sometimes very rarely the sound won't work or even better I can play songs but I can't control the volume because it says there's no active mixer installed.
and the past two times I've restarted the computer it seems like the theme is trying to catch up it's never done this before I haven't done anything different. I did install 47 windows updates but it was doing it before I installed the updates.
and like I said it only does it seldomly.
what's going on, how can I find out what's causing this?

When you say theme are you referring to the windows look as adjusted via start > Control Panel > Display > Themes?
As to the other problems:
Look in your Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for red X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id & Description especially of errors that seem to coincide with this issue.
Also check the Information lines that might coincide with this issue.
How to view and manage event logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
-
yeah just the basic xp theme but instead of blue it's silver.
-
Can you change it under the Appearance tab?
-
yeah I can change the theme if I wanted to but I like the Silver. I'm looking for an event that may have caused it to crash or do whatever it did now.
