Angry PC not recognising ipod or camera when in usb port. :S

Hi first i'll tell you a little bit about my PC.

    AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3000+
    1.81 GHz 512mb RAM
    Microsoft Windows XP SP2 2002

I dont know how much you need to know but anyway. The problem im having is connecting my camera and ipod to my PC. Firstly the ipod was perfectly fine and came up on itunes before i had a problem but now the computer makes the sound when a USB is connected to the PC but nothing comes up on itunes.

This same problem happens with my digital camera aswell, when i put it in and have also checked on Device manager, it is saying that the USB is connected to the pc but there is nothing i can do. I have tried updating the driver for both peices of hardware but having no luck.

I really have no clue what is wrong.

Thanks for any replies it will be much appreciated!

Just to clarify: you said: "Firstly the ipod was perfectly fine and came up on itunes before i had a problem... "

Are you referring to another problem? or is this the current problem?

If this is a new problem try a System Restore to a point prior to the problem:

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

If that doesn't help verify that Plug and Play is Started and set to Automatic under your Services list:

    start Run... services.msc

    Thanks for the reoply.

Well the only 2 things that wont work since my encounter with RegFix is ipod and camera. Things like my phone work when connected to usb but i think the camera and ipod may be different things.
I think this because the ipod was installed before regfix was done but camera was not.
Nor the camera or memory card reader show anything up on the pc like usual.

Another thing to highlight is the window that usually pops up saying

    Choose from list of programs:
    Windows media player
    Nero Showtime
    Quicktime player
    open folder to view files
    Take no action

Dont know if this has anything to do with it its just something ive noticed lately.

Many thanks for te replies guys.

So your camera doesn't appear in "My computer"?
    When you say
Another thing to highlight is the window that usually pops up saying

    Choose from list of programs:
    Windows media player
    Nero Showtime
    Quicktime player
    open folder to view files
    Take no action
do you mean the window doesn't pop up any more?

Yes it has never appeared in My Computer, unlike my phone which you can see in the 'others' section of My Computer. The window saying what action to take does not pop up with anything to be honest. I may be a changed setting.

The problem i cant undersatnd is that in device manager it says that the camera is connected and driver is up-to-date but the computer does not let me do anything with it because its nowhere to be clicked (e.g the system tray)

Ive tried hooking up the camera to another pc and everyting works fine and the pictures pop up automatically when the usb is plugged in.

    many thanks, stephen
