    Cd Rewriter

    Hi Folks,

My CD Rewriter appears to have developed a fault. When I put a CD in the machine makes a sound for a few seconds and the light flickers but then the noise stops and the light goes out. If I open up the icon on the desktop there is nothing there.

A hardware fault do you think?

    Many thanks for your help.

Sounds like a failing drive. Do you have another to try?

    Microsoft also offers these ideas:

'fraid not. I know they are not expensive but are they easy to fit?

    Kind regards.

If it is a standard tower then it's basically: unplug the old; remove a few screws and slide it out of the case; slide the new one in and replace a few screws; replug and play.

If it is a mini desktop or laptop the form and connections will be different (SCSI) but uninstalling and installing should be as easy although some laptops may be more difficult than others.
