Lost 'restore' points XP Home

Re: Lost 'restore' points XP Home
Hello Jephree
Your last question first. The ROXIO software is the controller for the CD write option. The ROXIO program was deleted, well, I thought so anyway after this procedure:
***Open regedit and navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE and find the folder for the application. Delete the folder.*** This morning the program, or parts of it, were still there and automatically invoked 'Install/Repair' command. From that point the whole thing becomes an everlasting circle of trying to install-load CD-install-load CD and so on.
I looked at ROXIO site for stated errors (1904 two kinds) and that required a visit to MS for Q322205 in connection with MDAC. Not much use to me I'm afraid except that I drew the conclusion that it could be well worth calling on the MS update service to examine the Desktop for ALL available updates; there were seven and these are now on board.
The computer is running much faster now but ROXIO is still u/s. 'unable to find certificate file', I will pursue this elsewhere since the preferred correction to the overall problem, I think, is 'non-destructive System Revovery' which I can hardly consider with a backup option first.
As to http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm, this does seem excellent and closer to my understanding than the MS equivalent, nevertheless, still daunting! A lot of concentrated reading to come.
Perhaps more important now is RegSeeker the use of which is stranger than when I put this on my Laptop.
Should I create another thread or ask you here?
As ever, my thanks.

Ask here since this has become a rather general thread.
XP has the built-in capacity to burn CD's.
If you add third party software it is advised to turn off the XP capability.
To either enable or disable check these two settings:
There are "2" places you may want to disable/enable XP's CD burner.
Open "my computer", right-click on your CD-RW drive icon, click "properties",
click "Recording" tab, (Uncheck/check) "Enable CD Recording on this drive", click
Apply.
The 2nd place is open 'control panel', click 'Admin tools', click 'Services'.
Look for the 'IMAPI CD Burning', double click and set Startup type to
Disabled or enabled.
If it is already enabled I would disable it as you try to remove the Roxio remnants and then enable it afterwards. If it is already disabled I would try to enable it.

Unable to tackle anything today/tomorrow, but meanwhile about RegSeeker.
On the Laptop I d/l, placed an .exe icon on the desktop, I used the software and can open RegSeeker from icon.
On the Desktop I d/l, used the software, but could only place an icon on the desktop which does not respond. It returns:
'unknown format' (or something like that) and I find it shown as C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch\REGSEEKER.EXE-37D2596B.pf. Is this related to the ongoing problem or have I boxed it up somewhere?

Can you still run RegSeeker.exe from the downloaded folder?

Hello Jephree
Had to pop in to say that other matters have priority at the moment.
I will report later if I may.
