    Laptop not doing anything...

Hi, Im haviang a problem with my laptop in which it basically doesnt do anything. If i try and start it up it will take a good hour for it to load everything and then still act really really slow, i cant use it at all unless i wait like 10 minutes for everything to load up. I have no clue as to how it became like this, i was staying round a friends for a couple of days, came back, and it was like this and it was fine before i left. I understand you have to post some info froma programme in these threads? (im new so not really sure) But i cant, im using my dads computer to do this. Iv'e tried defraging, virus checks and attempted to do a system restore but nothing has worked i really dont know what to do.

    Thanks for any help.

    Presario V2000

    The System Recovery details here:

You might try some of the other troubleshooting ideas but a System Recovery sounds like it is necessary.

I finally got round to trying the recovery disk idea but im unable to do that it seems. i go to start then all prgrammes but theres no option to create a recovery disk, bt im not sure it would be able to actually do one in the state its in. I tried reparing the operating system but to no success. I dont really want to format the hard drive and start fresh again but i dont really know what else to do.

Do you have an OSD from HP?

Most HP and Compaq notebook PCs manufactured between 2001 and 2005 are shipped with an Operating System Disc (OSD) that contains a full version of the Windows XP operating system.
This is probably what you need to do.

You can extract data off of the hard drive prior to this by slaving it in a desktop computer using an adapter as seen here:
