ME TOO! WAS SEARCHING BECAUSE I COULD OPEN ONE FOLDER BUT NOT A FOLDER WITHIN A FOLDER WITHOUT GETTING message "Runtime Error Program: c:\windows\explorer.exe abnormal program termination.
By Google search, I ended up here and I was helped too . I told FDM when they asked why I was unloading it as well.
THANK YOU THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU TOO! THANK YOU THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU TOO!
Hey 'Mister', seems like a funny way of saying this but "Thanks for having the problem before me so I could find the solution faster!!!" Thanks Jephree as well. It wasn't anything else but the FREE DOWNLOAD MANAGER was the cause. Funny because I had been using it for weeks. However I had just installed updates from Microsoft. I bet the updates screwed up the fdm! What do you think?
Thanks again everyone here for your posts so I could solve my problem too.

Welcome cpedley
Glad you found some help here at D-A-L
My overall advice is to keep XP as basic as possible. There is no need for Download Managers. XP does this by itself quite well.
Also anything you download you should monitor where it is going and what it is doing.
If you let most programs/applications do what they want on install they will pollute your computer.
Always check the Custom or Advanced option and tell the Program what you want. Believe me it is not difficult nor too advanced. Basic setup routines just assume that the downloader is ignorant and then they load all sorts of unnecessary nonsense.
Of course you're right. I even used to have programs which would follow the download and record a log but they became a drain on the system. What doesn't?Originally Posted by jephree
Have you ever made a DVD backup of Windows or your hard drive for easy re-install?
Wonder how feasible it is.

I am not certain of your question.
Here is a guide to XP's backup program:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u..._03july14.mspx
If you are talking about making exact copies of your hard drive there are third party softwares that do this:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=hard+drive+mirror
I was talking about making a backup copy only of the Windows folder and or selected other critical software that I need to deal with every day to avoid the downtime necessary when you have to reinstall Windows, then all the updates and so on ad infinitum. Would it not be possible to mirror and windows folder back onto itself when it becomes bloated with excess junk instead of reinstalling.
Thanks for the Link Jephree
