    sony vaio restore

    HI
have a sony vaio a197vp..boot problems..it has so much stuff on I tried to do a recovery using vaio restore disks..it will not recognise..I did f2 changed bios to run from dvd no result windows logo only..used f8 (enhanced startup) tried all combinations.under start with command prompt runs to
    multi(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\windows\system32\Driv ers\agp440.sys
then hangs. The only way I got it to start was to boot from' and boot logging' and continually open dvd drawer (with pin) and shut each time some activity, untin it finally booted (will not shut down and reboot only with above procedure(and now my pin is bent)if it does boot(finally) the dvd is not recognised until find hardware wizard is used..the grudgingly will go(cannot play any dvd disk only data((sorry to so long winded)
    (ps I do'nt have a paper clip)

Problems when Windows XP tries to load the Agp440.sys service
    http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;324764

This error is often linked to faulty hardware as well.

I am not able to get the manual to download at the moment:
    http://esupport.sony.com/perl/model-...pl?mdl=VGNA190

Can you get another CD drive to try?

At least remove the DVD cable inside and see if things improve.

    .................................................. ...

sorry I blanked out on the notebook as opposed to desktop

Is the DVD/CD drive removable? If so remove it to test.
