Hi jephree,
I think you might have misunderstood what I meant by the C Directory coming up when I turn on the computer. I mean the program files on C drive are displayed. In other words, all of the documents, programs are listed, not in binary form, just their regular user names. I dont think this is the same as the registry. Please let me know. Thanks

So the title of the directory is not: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 ?

Is it Window's Explorer that opens? Just says C: in the upper left of the window?

If you post a screen shot it would help.

There would be no harm in running that edit from Kelly's Korner. If it is not relevant then it won't change anything.

Is this a new problem? Were things working OK previously? Any new hardware or software?

If this is a new problem try a System Restore to a point prior to the problem:

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

You can also edit Startup processes via start Run... msconfig | Startup

Okay, yes it does say C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32-- I was wrong.

I tried to do a system restore to June 26th, when I first started having this problem--after I upgraded to AOL 9.0 Security version. I have chatted with the technicians at aol to no avail. They don't know what caused it. The restorations did not work--the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 thing still appears, even though it didn't begin appearing until after the dates I pick for restoration. Are there any options for getting rid of it? Does it indicate a larger problem? Thanks

Now, another thing, when I tried the restores, this message came up.

This application has failed to start because xprts.dll was not foudn Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

I don't even know what xprts.dll is. Could this be the problem with the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 appearing each time the computer is turned on?

xprts.dll is not an XP file. I can find no reference to it in Google which is rare and very suspect.

Perhaps run a search for it on your computer and see if you can find what application it is associated with.

Otherwise have you run the Kelly's Korner edit for System32?

Okay, I searched for the unknown file- no results. Also, went to Kelly's Corner- tried the 260 boot and got this message : "The script cannot repair your issue The expected Registry value was not found."

Here's another part of the issue: every day almost, I have to do a Quick Restore on aol because the access from my computer will not work. I click on the desktop icon and I try to select from the Programs menu with no results. I end up talking to the technical support and they always say turn the computer off and restart or do quick restore. Sometimes I have to do both. Often the restarting of the computer is enough. What's the deal with that?

I appreciate your help. Thanks for your time-Best Regards, emily1
