    logging restart problems

hi this is my first post so i hope i can explain my problems as best i can.

    general description of problem

when my computer restarts and i choose my log in details(administrator) the computer will automatically reboot itself and will continue to do so if i choose my user name, however if i choose another user name i.e my sons say i can log in on his user name and it will boot up properly.

when using other user names on my pc i also keep getting critical error messages keep popping saying that i have registry problems, i have run a full programme called registry mechanic that has found a load of errors and has corrected them according to the programme.

none of the programmes i try to use like windows media player for instance and microsoft office will not work properly on any other user name yet worked perfectly fine when using them on my user name

1, reboot problems on my user name (administrator)
2, critical popups on any other user name
    3, programmes not operating properly

im hopeing these problems run hand in hand once i find and solve the problem of logging in on my account.

i hope i have explained it well enough i will try to answer any other questions you may have for me but try not to be to technical i know absolutely nothing with this sort of problem.

    please help kind regards destiny-angel

    Welcome to D-A-L

Is this XP Home or XP Pro?

Is this a new problem? Were things working OK previously? Any new hardware or software?

If this is a new problem try a System Restore to a point prior to the problem:

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

    hi
sorry i should have been a bit more informative.

im running windows xp home edition and this is a new occrance, i have tried to reinstall an earlier date and time but this has made no differance at all.

i have tried pressing f8 and configuring the pc to its last known restore point but still cannot log into my account.

what i have done is given all users on my pc administative options so they all have access to all files but still cant get the programmes to work properly.

still cant access my account continues to reboot itself but i can get access with all the other users on the pc it seems i have somehow got to repair what damage i have dont to my account,if i could get access to this account it would be much easier to back up my programmes properly as my account seems to be the only place that the programmes did work(confusing i know)

i should beable to backup my files from another account(thats if the programmes come accross properly) but i still have the reinstall problem of not having a windows xp home edition disc or a clean manufacturer install disc.

it seems im rogered both ways.

    any ideas

    thanks ryan

Was XP pre-installed on this computer? What is the make and model of the computer? Or what was the souce of XP?

In XP Home there is a built in Administrator account that is only visible and or accessible via Safe Mode: F8 at boot.

In general this account is never used and should be in an as new state.

Have you tried to access this account?

Once you've booted in Safe Mode, press CTRL-ALT-DEL twice at the welcome screen, if necessary, and enter Administrator and the password.

If you never set a password at the password prompt just leave blank and hit Enter.

Once there look around and see what you can and cannot do as to starting programs and or accessing data.

One trouble-shooting tool you can run from here is Check Disk:

One thing you could try in repairing the current installation is to run check disk:

    start | Run cmd

    Type: chkdsk /f

You will be told that you cannot do this as the files are in use > Do you want to run on next boot? Y or N

    Type: y and then reboot.

    hi back again

started in safe mode went through the administrator everything seemed ok, tried to access my account through safe mode the system again just reset its self and booted up again.

i ran chkdsk /f and it did what you said and couldnt run because other files being used and would do a check on next bootup, but when the pc was rebooted up no check disk happened i have tried this twice and no check was done.

this is getting frustrating (who said pc's are fun)only when they work right maybe.

can i again call on you for some more ideas

i appreciate your time and effort

    thanks ryan

Were you able to run the computer and or programs from the built-in Administrator account?

At this point do not go into your account.

I would suggest creating new accounts from that one.

Assuming your other accounts are corrupt is there any reason to try and save them?

You can transfer data if necessary as seen here:
