cannot view streaming video
When I try to view streaming video on news sites, youtube.com or other sites, I'm told I have either JavaScript turned off or an old version of Flash player. When I click on links to Adobe's site to download the latest Flash player, it says "Flash player successfully installed." However, even after rebooting, I receive the same message.
This began occurring about 2 weeks ago, around the time that I was prompted to (and indeed did) download/install a new version of McAffee Security Center (for which I have a one-year paid subscription). I don't understand how that could affect my viewing of streaming video, but that was the only change I made around the time that this problem began. I have checked eventvwr and there are no x-marked error messages coinciding with the times that I've attempted to view streaming videos.
My PC info: Dell Dim 4400, Windows XP Home w/SP2.
Neal, in your spyware forum, has already kindly assisted me in running various scans. He stated that I now appear to be free of any malware, and referred me to this forum. Thank you so much.

This is a common problem. One resolution is in this thread:

I had the same problem and the above uninstaller worked temporarily for me.
In my case the problem returns over time. It only affects me using YouTube. I have no trouble viewing anything else.

Thanks, jephree! One glitch, though, was upon running the uninstaller, I received the message "Flash 9.0CX is currently being used" and then another message that FlashPlayer was not completely uninstalled.
I returned to YouTube and downloaded FlashPlayer from their link, which took 2 attempts, but now I can view YouTube and all other streaming videos.
