Newly installed XP sp2. My sony cd-rw will only read music cd's. (this is an Atapi and driver was always difficult. My archinve CD cannot be viewed. Used B'sClip previously. (UDP packed writing and reading.) BHA suggested for XP to uncheck recording on CD rom dirve properties. Does not work.

You could try Uninstalling via the Device Manager: start/run devmgmt.msc

Click the + next to DVD/CD-ROM drives then right click the Sony and choose Uninstall and reboot.

XP should then redetect the drive and reload the drivers.

Another idea is to search for a firmware update from Sony. What is the exact Sony model?

You should see this via the Device Manager: right click to Properties then Details.

Sony does not have an update for the CD/RW model CRX175a. By the way I did check populate and the cd seems to be working for the moment. Still having bugs from updateing to XP. Thank you so much for the help.
