    Unhappy LAN connection missing

hi, im typing this on my friends pc as my connection is unavailable,
i was on dial up, but decided to try broadband, the box arrived and when i went to plug the LAN cable in there was no socket for it, there was just a blank hole where it should have been, on opening the side of cabinet incase it had came off. there was nothing inside. it is a mystery where it has gone, now i have the problem of having no LAN connection, hence no broadband.
I was wondering what part i need and how do i fit it? is there a cable i could plug into a usb with lan socket at the other end, to accomodate the cable from broadband, has anybody any idea as my dial up has been switched off and the broadband started to be charged and im not getting the benefit. im lost without the internet, many thanks in advance to anyone who has any suggestions.
