    Re: system reboting and freezing.

    Hi Japhree
Sisnce last posting at 11:14 I had one hard freeze requiring turning off system and one BSD. Send info to MS and response from them for first time instead of normal device driver was
Hardware failure: replace failed component. I am attaching new memory dump. In memeory dumps it is also pointing to hardware problem. What is the best approach to find offending device. Thanks Walter

Sorry that this is such a tedious process.

Most of those last dumps indicate Hardware but this can still be a driver affecting hardware.

Norton's Firewall is still on the top of every stack. Apparently it is still starting and running.

How did you try to stop it?

To eliminate software issues start turning off programs that automatically run. You can try this manually (for example I would turn off all Norton Products). Right click the icons in the System Tray (lower right) and choose EXIT. On a more advanced level you can go to start Run.. msconfig | Startup. Here you can uncheck all or selectively uncheck programs from starting. You can always go back here and recheck. On reboot you will be warned that you are starting in a Diagnostic Mode. Just check (I know) Don't show me this again.
    Norton apps that keep appearing:

    SYMTDI.SYS
    SYMREDRV.SYS
    SYMNDIS.SYS
    SYMFW.SYS

    Hi Japhree
went into norton and flagged it as disabled. Forgat to go into msconfig and flag it there as do not start. Walter
Additiona comments. About 6:00 AM CDT(chicago) system went into BSD. When it came up norton firewall did not start. Tonight I will after work uninstall both nortons firewall and clean sweep in order to eliminate any extra variables.
Also Friday I went into system and changed option to do not restart after BSD. Did not pay attention to much to graphics until this morning. previous screens were kind a gray with almost scale like texture on screen. Todays it came up regular blue and white. Possibility of video card going bad? using pc tools from HP both in dos mode and in windows did run tests on viedeo card. came out clean. Thanks Walter

That error is often associated with Graphics Cards but the Fault was on AVG.

It is curious how security software is triggering most of these dumps and yet they reflect hardware problems in memory.

    I would suggest:

    1. Reload your nVidia drivers (turning off all anti-virus applications)

    http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

    Driver Installation Hints

"Download Accelerator" utilities should be disabled when downloading any drivers.

Do not run virus protection software in the background while installing the drivers. This prevents the driver from configuring itself properly.

Before installing new drivers make sure you uninstall all NVIDIA display drivers from the Windows Control Panel. Browse to the Start Menu > Windows Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and search for "NVIDIA Windows Display Drivers" or "NVIDIA Display Drivers" and select remove.

    2. Run off line with no anti virus running and see if the problem persists.

    3. Try another Graphics Card.

    Hi Jephree
    1. dowloaded new nvida drivers.
    2. reloaded with AVG antivirus off.
    3. while offline will run with no AV and see what will develop.
    3. Do not have spare graphic card. But have been thinking of updating current one. What is your recomenddation for AGP card in 100.00 to 200.00 range since anything over that price will be an ovekill. Current is Nvida mx440 with 64m.
    4. so far have been going since 7:00 PM and now it is 10:45 PM with no freezes or dumps.
    Thanks Walter

    BugCheck 1000008E, {c0000005, 804e7001, b82f20ab, 0}

    Probably caused by : avg7rsxp.sys ( avg7rsxp+181b )

I suppose a good thing is that all theses dumps are so similar as to suggest one definite problem.

AVG appears to be the current trigger.
