    Re: system reboting and freezing.

    Hi Jephree
At this point I am running only on one memory stick(original that came with the system), Also my swap file is set to manual/permanent two times memory (2 gig) Will swap for the other stick in a day or so to find if any is defective.
I have turned off all products from starting in msconfig. Only ones that will stay are AV, spyboot and norton firewall.
    Thanks Walter

    Hi Jephree
as for disconecting 2 SCSI drives that is only partially possible. On H drive are games, work folders for digital cameras, scanner work area. that I can turn off.
G drive is not practical since on it are Office 2000, lotus smart suite, Photoshop, printers, Av, Norton fire wall, digital cameras, Kodaks easy share, adaware, spyboot and so on.
C has swap file, any programs that just install without option to change to any other drive.
    winzip, att(isp)

No I do not have spare drives. IDE is at 50% both SCSI are at 45 and 60% mark and about 60% of it is data. To try that approach is not to realistic since I can not afford to lose data. And data is in usual Windows fashion scatered over many work folders.

Have you turned off Norton's Firewall?

If not please try that. You can turn on the XP SP2 Firewall via the Security Center under Control Panel.

You might also run a diagnostic on your boot hard drive. Do you know the manufacturer?

Most have diagnostic software on their web sites to download and run.

Also: when you say Swap File do you mean Page File? If so change it to the following:

To set Virtual Memory: Right click My Computer then click Properties > Advanced

Performance > Settings > Advanced > Virtual Memory > Change

With C: as the drive selected click System Manage Size then Set and OK your way out thru the windows.

    Hi Jephree
No I hvave not turned off Norton Firewall. will get this done tonight and activate XP firewall. I will download check program and will try after work. Page file(swap file) is set to fixed size of 2G(twice memory). If you want I will change it to let XP manage it again.
Running with only one memory stick. so far few hard freeze occurences. Probably on Friday will swap memory sticks to see if there is any difference. Walter

    Hi Jephree
I have stoped Norton firewall and turned on Windows firewall(default seting) . My HD are WD for primary and 2 IBM SCSI's. Downoaded from WD and Hitatchi utility programs and ran scans on all 3 drives. alll did pass fine. HP has dos based pcdoctor utility that scans all your functions ran all tests in there and came out clean. Swaped memory sticks(using PNY now). 3 hard freezes so far with second stick. while running with original stick had 4 dumps. attaching them.
    Thanks Walter
