    Windows XP Pro Startup Problem

My computer hangs up while starting Windows XP Pro. XP boots up properly, advances through the startup sequence to the logon screen. I can then select which user to logon and enter my password. XP then loads my current desktop wallpaper and hangs up. Where should I look to troubleshoot this problem?? What can I try to fix this problem??

Does this happen to every user?

Is this a new problem? Were things working OK previously? Any new hardware or software?

If this is a new problem try a System Restore to a point prior to the problem:

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

Yes, every user hangs the same way.

Only new software was a Norton Antivirus and Internet protection suite.

Everything ran fine prior to that.

    That is some heavy software.

I would suggest removing it and then reviewing the exact installation instructions.

You could try entering the Main Administrator account at the Welcome Screen by pressing:

Ctrl > Alt > Delete twice and choose Administrator.

Here, if it loads, you can try System Restore.

Or you can try removing Norton from start Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs

If none of the above works Norton issues special uninstall programs as their software is so intrusive into Windows.
We can look that up by designating your exact product.

    Just for example:

    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...01092114452606

Inserting your own version into search should bring up the details.

    e.g. uninstall norton xyz
