    Internet keeps cutting out

Hi, I'm looking any suggestions that might be able to help me.

A couple of days ago I changed my modem to a wireless router and since then i have been losing the internet connection sometimes as frequently as every 5 minutes, but sometimes it can stay connected for a couple of hours. It only lasts a couple of seconds when it dips, but its really annoying.

Ive contacted the ISP and they have run line tests and don't think that they are the problem. I have reconfigured the router but the problem still exists. I don't think its a problem with the sockets either because this still happens when the router is plugged into the test socket.

There are 3 computers receiving an internet signal from the router, the desktop is connected via an ethernet cable, one laptop receives its connection via a wireless card and the other laptop is newer and has it built in. The desktop and the older lap top cut out and reconnect at the same time, whereas the newer laptop disconnects less frequently and at different times. (I don't know if thats relevant but thought I should mention it).

I don't know what else to try or who else I can ask, so any help would be much appreciated. Thank you

    Hi and welcome to D-A-L

are you on cable or through the phone line?

if your internet is through the phone line are the microfilters in place?

Yes, the micro filters are in place, I have even changed them in case one of them was not working properly.

did you have problems with the disconnecting before you got this router/modem?

has the router got lots of space around it to keep it cool?

Not really, it cut out occasionally, but nothing like this. Im pretty sure the router is cool enough, but I will go and move it. Now that you mention it, my computer has been getting very hot lately, and I'm worried that its over heating - could that be causing the trouble, or is that totally unrelated?
