I have been trying to re-install my xp Pro on a new hard drive and so far it has taken 24 hours... I am down to 5 minutes... Can anyone give me any suggestions on why this is taking so long and what I should do??
Hi and welcome to D-A-L
what version of XP Pro is it, OEM or a version for a specific make ie DELL
how big is the hard drive, have you partioned it up to smaller partitions, what sort of format or you trying NTSC or FAT?
Whats going on is we were possibly hit with lightning. Computer worked but really slow. I put a new video card in, new modem and new harddrive. The harddrive was a 40 gig and I went to a 80 gig. When I finally get this loaded it will work but slow as H and will freeze up alot. I was trying to do another format and reload it and so far it has taken 24 hours of constant running. Its like it runs then stops. I have never had this happen to a computer before and I wondered if possibly the motherboard was going bad or the processor.

before the lightning hit was it all working OK?
as your using a modem did the lightning come down the phone line?
but there is a good chance that lightning has done damage to the PC that'll be expensive to repair
tried origional parts with new hard drive and actually had it work long enough to tell me the old video card was unstable. replaced that. As of now xp pro is installed but it is working about as fast as a snail. any suggestions??
