Graphics card "fails to draw"
I recently reformatted my HDD/reinstalled Windows, and after installing all the drivers for everything and latest driver for my ATI Mobility Radeon X700 card and playing Guild Wars for about 5 minutes, it garbles all audio, closes intself, I get a black screen and have to force restart. Upon the next boot, Windows says that the device ATI Radeon Mobility X700 failed to draw a requested object, or something like that.
So then I reinstalled the X700 driver from ATI's website, as well as DirectX 9.0c. Rebooted computer again, started up Guild Wars, and not 2 minutes in the computer crashes again, but without the garbling and freezing, instead it just turns off. Upon reboot I get a BSOD with:
***STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF7C7A640, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)
With no name of a file or anything. :\
So, any idea what's going on?

Is this a new problem? Were you ever able to play these games on this computer?
Why did you reinstall XP? What problems were you having?
That first error is generally a boot or setup issue. Do you have any other problems outside of games?
Is the graphics card and fan clean and working?
In changing drivers did you uninstall the old first and also disable your anti-virus during installation?
Also: look in your Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id & Description especially of errors that seem to coincide with this issue.
Also check the Information lines that might coincide with this issue.

I've been able to play games on this computer before, though occasionally it would fail due to overheating, but it would be an hour or two into the game. This is happening when I'm in pre-game menus, even, under circumtances that aren't running the fan or making the computer hot at all.

Windows decided to start lagging when I started applications and/or made the processor work, for no particular reason, and that got kind of annoying. Nothing like the audio garbling and complete freeze problems I'm having now, though, just periods of being really laggy, then working fine. Well, fine by Windows standards, which isn't much...

No. Everything else is working fine. Just whenever I start to play games, something goes wrong. Which leads me to believe it's some kind of graphics related issue...
Is the graphics card and fan clean and working?
Yup.

After I reformatted I installed a VGA driver adapter thing off of the drivers disc for my computer, and then proceeded to download the newest Catalyst driver from ATI. When I reinstalled I used the remove driver utility beforehand.
