    Big Trouble!! Help

I got myself into a mess....I am going crazy, nothing is working properly. I did a System Recovery my computer was back to when I first bought it. I've experienced a large amount of problems...and will list them so its more understandable.

*I was in paint and made a drawing...I saved it as and a message poped up saing"Please insert disk a in drive:A"

*I can't download ANYTHING WHATSOEVER from the internet, Whenever I use Internet Explorer v6 and I try to download a file off the internet, nothing happends. The download windows comes out but no download. Also it doesnt load the website 100% some content is missing out...(does that forever)

(This happends after I try to download something no matter what it is)

    * I cant do windows update, it says an error...I even did what it said but nothing.

*With mozilla firefox I cant download anything either, everytime I try to download something an error message pops up "File cannot be saved, because you cannot change the contents of this folder"

*My Documents folder is inaccessable, and so is another folder I had in my desktop. I get an error message saying "File is not accessible. Access is Denied."

*My favorites folder for Internet Explorer Browser is inaccessible, therefore I cant add favorites.

*I cannot uninstall Norton Antivirus...I get an error, saying the uninstallation was aborted, encountered an error and was unable to uninstall.

If System Recovery resets all my windows updates then I have never updated. If it doesnt, then maybe a a month ago. But either way, I cant run windows update.

And I am sure there are more problems, if I see them Ill post here...And btw..thanks you guys are my only hope..

Did you run a Full System Recovery as described here?

Yes, I did do Full System Recovery...omg I din't know there was a Standard Recovery. I just re booted my computer and hit F10 'System Recovery' MY computer was as it was when I first bought it, but many files where still there...and many where inaccessible and destructible.

I would try another recovery and verify that you do a Full System Recovery: Booting from the CD:

    For full system recovery:
Press R, and then press the Fkey again.
Click Yes to perform the full system recovery.
Insert the remaining CDs when directed.
This should wipe the hard drive. You should not have any old data remain.

The fist step after a reinstall would be to go to Windows Update and download SP2. Or if you want to put it on CD prior to reinstall you can download it from here on another computer and copy to CD:

With a successful reinstall you should have no problem updating.

The other idea was to put SP2 on a CD rather than using Windows Update.

Let us know how it goes.

I did a system recovery again, I din't do a Full System Recovery..sorry it was a Normal one. After 2 Recovery SAME THING.

A full system recovery sounds kinda crazy, this computer did not come with a main CD with all the softwares.

Sorry for my confusion but have you done a Full Recovery now? A full Format?

If so there should be nothing on your hard drive except XP.

    Did you buy it new?

Did you buy it from HP/Compaq?

    You have no Compaq CD's?
