    Startup issues

I've noticed that my PC takes forever to startup, especially since my wife's cousin stayed at our house. I know that there is something that I can do using msconfig: and unchecking some of the startup items, but I would never do that without advice. Any suggestions?

Also, is there any way to get the logon box to stop appearing when I turn on my pc? My wife and I do not have different profiles so I don't need it...

    Thanks...

As to logon: go to start > Control Panel > User Accounts > Change the way users log on or off

Click or unclick (if clicked) the Use the Welcome Screen.

If your wife's cousin created a new account then you may need to delete it. Multiple user accounts will at least prompt for the user name.

As to msconfig | startup: there is nothing listed there that is vital to XP starting itself. These are all third party applications. Of course your anti virus and firewall will be in there. As to testing you can disable all and see how it affects the startup. After this you can always go back and individually restore the items. The list will remain even after you uncheck the items.

If for any reason you suspect any malware and or virus issues I suggest the following:
