What is the verbatim error message?
Try booting into Safe Mode by repeatedly tapping the F8 key after your BIOS POST but before Windows starts.
What did you try in the Recovery Console?
Did Zone Alarm ever work on this computer? You might want to stop it in Safe Mode for the time being.
start/run msconfig | startup > disable all
Also: look in your Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id & Description especially of errors that seem to coincide with this issue.
Also check the Information lines that might coincide with this issue.

Also a Repair Install of XP will save your data and settings including programs except Windows Updates if you need to reinstall again:

hey soz i havent replied long...(sigh) last time i fixed it..through repair install:
how do u do this?
1. Boot the computer using the XP CD. You may need to change the boot order in the system BIOS so the CD boots before the hard drive. Check your system documentation for steps to access the BIOS and change the boot order.

ok
i think i managed to start up the computer with its booting 1st with my CD drive ..now i get an error...:
"The file ayikaxmj .sys could not be found."
then when i press any key it reboots....

right now..i'm:
"Also: look in your Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.

Also check the Information lines that might coincide with this issue."
So...there are many..so i'll list them all...

they mainly consist of errors: nview_info, Application Errors,
Nview_info description is: "The description for Event ID ( 1 ) in Source ( nview_info ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: NVIEW : steam: WAIT_TIMEOUT, while waiting for a read to clear - resetting read event"
Application errors consist of: Faulting application firefox.exe, version 1.8.20061.2516, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, fault address 0x00001010.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

those were Application errors...

nview_info is your nvidia information program. It is not necessary and most likely not the source of any problems outside of itself.
ayikaxmj.sys is not an XP file. Google actually shows no hits on it which is strange.
Are you booting a Microsoft XP CD or an OEM (computer manufacturer) disk?
If the latter who is the manufacturer?

ok hmm..i was repairing install with service pack 2 CD...the original on my computer is service pack 2..
but it prompts me that it needs files:heres the error:
Files Needed
The file 'asms' on windows xp home edition service pack 2 CD is needed
Type the path where file is located, and click ok
Copy files from
D:/1386
...
when i click ok with this defaulted option nothing happens..it leaves me with the same prompt.
