    Cool Automatic update scheduler

I continuously get an entry in the Error Log in which the Automatic update scheduler is a source of an error-- The description is "Information Level: error internet connection not detected."
I am using Norton Anti Virus. The only other automatic update program is the Windows Update feature. This entry appears about 10 times each day in the log.

    Any suggestion? Thanks

Does the error (information) list an application? Are you always on-line or do you work off line at times?

The error log does not cite any application. I quoted the entire log entry in the original request.

I do sometimes work off-line with Outlook Express when composing emails.

Is this in the Event Viewer? Are the lines listed as Information? Warning? or Error?

I would guess that either Norton or Windows is passing an update point when you are working offline.

An information line in the Event Viewer is just that. There is no error. The computer is on and every so often Windows Update and or Norton is set to check for updates and you are not online (no internet connection).

If you want to verify that make note of the time when you are online and when you are not. See if these times relate to the Event Log times.

Double clicking lines in the Event Viewer also brings out more detail.

I was viewing the log through START >HELP/SUPPORT>PICK A TASK> TOOLS> ADVANCED SYSTEM INFO> VIEW ERROR LOG

When viewed through EVENT VIEWER just now there were several events which occurred
    WHILE I was on-line.

ERROR 8:39:41 AUTOMATIC LIVE UPDATE INTERNET CONNECTION NOT DETECTED

INFO 8:39:41 AUTOMATIC LIVE UPDATE INFO LEVEL: SUCCESS ROLLING BACKTHE
    SCHEDULE ... 8:44

INFO 8:44:41 AUTOMATIC LIVE UPDATE SCHEDULER LAUNCHED AUTOMATIC
    UPDATE

INFO 8:45:11 AUTOMATIC LIVE UPDATE AUTOMATIC UPDATE TERMINATED

INFO 8:45:11 AUTOMATIC LIVE UPDATE NEXT RUN IS SCHEDULED FOR 1:08 PM

So it appears the update fails to work on the first try each time. I see the same pattern has been occurring for each day

    That error is from Norton.

Is this a new problem? Were things working OK previously? Is Norton new? Have you recently changed the settings?

Do you perhaps have a firewall blocking Norton?

I would also check your Norton settings and perhaps turn off then turn back on the Automatic Updater.

Can you manually update Norton? If not do you get an error from Norton?

This problem was occuring on June 20, 2006, the earliest date appearing on the Event Log.

Have changed settings in Norton, turnin off and on each feature-- even turned off rebooted computer and turned on. These changes were only made after error report had been occurring for a month. No surprises in each of these changes.

The only other firewall on the machine is the XP system firewall which I have turned off in response to the directions from Norton.

I can manually update Norton without a problem.

I hope I've answered all of your questions.

If you put Automatic update scheduler in the search box in the link below you will get some ideas.

Also you might try the AutoFix Tool.

Was the automatic update scheduler working previously to June 20, 2006?
