Exclamation I cant logon to windows! No usernames, they've been disabled :(

Ive been having a fiddle with my computer and tried setting it up so that instead of having to logon each time i start it up, it just goes straight onto the desktop. So i disabled the username i use to logon and turned the PC off. When i turned it back on i got the 'logon to windows' screen again but now i dont have an account to click on as i disabled it

I thought by disabling the account it would go straight onto windows but it didnt, now i cant get on at all because there is no username to click on!!! A friend told me to start the PC in 'Safe Mode' but that didn't work i just got the same screen again but just bigger.

Anyone got any ideas how to get me onto my desktop? Also once on my desktop how to i get rid of the logon screen so that i can go straight to windows without logging on each time i turn the damn thing on?

    Thanks in advance!

Oh.... just one more thing...... For some reason (when i can actually get onto windows!) i can only select 16bit colour and 800x600 pixel screen! Why? It used to be on 'True Colour' and 1280x1024 pixels when i first got it!

Thanks again..... this site is a lifesaver!!! WONDERFUL

    can you try

Click Start on the Windows taskbar, and then click Run.

In the Open box, type: control userpasswords2

    then click OK.

In the dialog box that appears,
You'll see: "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" check box.
Enabled will require users to logon, disabling will make XP automatically logon to the Administrator account.

Thanks for that idea but the thing is i cannot get onto the desltop to click the start menu!

All i have when i turn on the PC is, after loading up, a blue screen with the XP logo on, a power off/restart button in the left bottom corner and the words 'Please select a username to continue'.

This is the trouble, there are no usernames to click on! I pressed 'cntrl-alt-del' twice to restart but a username/password dialog box appeared. I entered my details and i got the message 'Your account has been disabled please contact your administrator' which is stupid because i am the administrator!!!

Yeh i tried in safe mode and i tried the last good config. start and still the same. Infact i tried everything on the F8 menu, even debugger mode and VGA mode (not a clue what they do) and it still remains the same!

It seems really stupid of Microsoft to allow something like this without a warning. I assumed that disabling the accounts it would go straight onto a default guest account!?!?

Is there not a universal account i can get onto or something?

the only universal account I can think of is the administors account in safe mode.

have you tried a repair instalation of XP?

No. I dont have the XP disc, i bought the PC with it pre-installed. Is there not another option as XP costs around £110 doesn't it?

Well i actually bought it from a chemical works. A friend of mine works there and they were doing away with desktops for laptops, all i got was the tower, monitor, mouse and kbd. Office and windowsXP was already installed on it, i got no disks or anything, just the computer.

Will i definatley need the recovery disks? i dont have them but will i be able to download them or is there any other alternatives?

This seems like its going to be a problem to get around, why would MS allow this to happen..... fools. Well..... thanks for your help, anymore would be appreciated!
