How much free disc does XP need?

    Hi Folks,
I used to have a Win98SE system which was about 15GB in size and worked happily for years on a 30GB partition without ever running out of space.
I'm now on XP Pro and the system (same one upgraded) is now about 25GB on tbe same 30GB partition.
Should I give it more space?
    Regards.

The initial requirement was 1.5 GB of available hard disk space. SP2 and subsequent updates have added perhaps 1 GB. So at 2.5 I would double and say that XP itself would want 5GB.

I would guess that you are referring to everything that is installed on your C: drive?

In general I would not load a partition over 50%. XP also uses the partition for System Restore and Page File.

You could move the Page File to another partition if you choose:

You could change the System Restore size (0>12%) via right click My Computer then click Properties then System Restore > Settings.
