Hi there, Hoping that someone can assist. When i start up my pc it goes through the normal check process. Checks ram etc. Then the screen goes blank. The window's xp logo does not pop up.

I tried to reboot and the same thing happens. My screen is blank. I have checked all cables and found nothing. I have a gigabyte board with a on board graphics card. Do you think it could be the graphic's card that is faulty? I am able to go into my cmos when holding in the delete button.I tried booting from a bootable xp cd and nothing happens. Should i get a new graphics card? Could that be the problem?

Is this a new problem? Were things working OK previously? Any new hardware and or software?

Try booting into Safe Mode by repeatedly tapping the F8 key after your BIOS POST.

I did install a dvd writer, however the pc worked after i installed it for about 3 weeks. The problem only jumped up now. I have tried to reboot in safe mode but i get the same problem blank screen all the time.

Do you have a Microsoft XP CD or is this a manufactured computer with OEM Recovery disks?

If the former boot the XP CD and press R to enter the Recovery Console.

Then choose the FIXBOOT option.

If the latter what is the make and model of the computer? The manufacturer should have specific Recovery options.
