    Installation of game on XP

Hi, i am using Windows XP and i try installing a computer game which gets to 54% everytime and then comes up with the message "A problem occurred with the move data process: -117" I am installing the "large install" when this happens but if i install the "small install" it installs okay. The small installation requires 400mb of hard disk space and the large install requires 700mb of hard disk space. So im thinking it must be something to do with the memory but when i right click on the C drive in my computer ive got 3/4 of free space. Now is there some sort of other memory used when installing an application?

    Please help anyone

    Thanks

    Jay

    What is the game?

Can you see if it always fails installing a specific file? If so renaming this file may help.

Also make sure that no other applications are open including anti-virus.

Also you might try loading in Safe Mode.

I have tried installing in safe mode and have disabled virus software, now it used to fail on the same file about 5 times it did tht then now it fails on different file. But how could i change the name of the file if the file is on the cd? i cant copy the files from the cd to the pc. could this mean it is a memory problem?

    What is the game?

A solution is sometimes copying the CD to the hard drive then installing.

Are you saying you cannot do this? Why not?

How much free space is on the hard drive?

Another possibility from that error is an improper read speed on the CD drive.

Also what is your File System? NTFS or FAT? If FAT there might also be file size issues.

The game id Delta Force Black Hawk Down, i had it installed along time ago but lost cd.

How do i check whether my pc is FAT or NTFS?

But if there was a problem with the disk reading would it just not start up tho?cause everything works fine i put the cd in and it loads up straight away.

i got 52 G free space on C drive. The game needs 700mb hard disk space to install. im sure there must be some sort of other memory in computer that this games tryin to use and i havnt got enough of it jus dunno what.

you could be right with this FAT/NTFS

right just tried copying the game to C drive again and it comes up with " a problem with DATA2. invalid MS-DOS function. It could be something to do with the speed of the dick reader you could be right because it speeds up and makes a noise but then stops when the error occurrs. and then starts and stops randomly. I updated the drivers if i can remember correctly a few months back so that i could run Call of Duty 2. Because the cd just wouldnt run on my pc. Maybe this could affect it?

DATA2 is a temporary installation file. The game's website acknowledges problems with SP2 although they blame Microsoft which is a bit ridiculous IMHO.

If you are getting the "16 bit Windows Subsystem: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT" error you might try their fix listed in the first link.

In order to see your file system right click on My Computer then click Manage then Disk Management
