Recently, my screen saver has developed a mind of its own. Sometimes, it will start when it is supposed to (after 10 minutes), other times it will not start at all. Most of the time, when the screen saver does start, after several minutes, it will turn itself off and return to the Windows XP desktop.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Go.start >> settings >> Control Panel >> Display >> Screen Saver has it got a tick by on resume display windows welcome screen?

what are the power settings in the monitor power

I don't see an option for "on resume display windows welcome screen" - only "on resume password protect". All monitor power settings are set to "never".

Is this a new problem? Were things working OK previously? Any new hardware and or software?

If this is a new problem try a System Restore to a point prior to the problem:

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
