    I'm back

Hello there - I used to some on here quite a bit, mainly looking at web design stuff, but hey, I'm back with a problem :/

    Spec:

    Mobo: ASUS P5S800-VM
    CPU: Intel P4 3Ghz - not overclocked
    RAM: 2x512 Mb DDR 400MHz
    HDD: 1 x 250 Gb SATA2
GFx: GeForce FX 5500 (don't laugh ppl - I know it needs sorting )
    Sound: Onboard
    1xDVD, 1xDVD-RW
    OS: Authentic XP

Right - just put a new HDD in, completely fresh install of windows, latest drivers for everything (I think), DX9 installed & up to date.

    2 Problems:

    1) Sound distorts really badly when the HDD is active - it is a SATA2 drive - the mobo supports SATA1 - but I was reliably informed SATA2 drives are backwards compatible to SATA1?

    2) Picture on screen freezes when exiting from some games, It's only the screen that freezes - everything still works in the background (I can press the start button & although it doesn't show It I can select shut down using the arrow keys).

Normally I can solve this sort of thing by myself, I'm tearing my hair out here.

Anyone had similar problems before??? I'm all out of ideas?

SATA2 is indeed backwards compatabe with SATA1.

I see many BIOS updates for that board. Many have SATA issues. I was also looking for a hard drive limit size (if any).

There are also the Audio drivers at the ASUS site plus all the rest for the board.

    Select: Motherboard > Socket 775 > P5S800-VM

Did you reload your Graphics Dirivers from nVidia?

ahhh, bios updates, forgot about them, I'll try them.

The sound drivers are the latest i found on a drivers site I normally use - not from the ASUS site - I'll double check them.

The gfx drivers are the latest updates from nvidia.

Thanks for the help - I'll do them & get back to you. TY
