    RAW file type???(help needed)

    hi guys
i'm new to this site today and hope i'll be able to help as much as i hope you can help me!!

caught the july 4th virus, got through my zone alarm set up, got rid using avg. anyway, my external drive has since lost all data, and in properties shows no free space or used space and is saying the file type is RAW. this used to be fat32. unable to use drive or even format??

dont expect to be able to recover the lost data but i would like to be able to use the drive again

    anybody any ideas??

    thanks in advance

    1) what does it say when you double click it?
    2) do any other external/removable drives work?
    3) have you tried start>run> "format x:" (where x is the letter of your external drive)
    4) does it work on another computer?
    5) what happened when you tried to format it? what error did you get?

    Sorry for all the questions,
    Mike

    hi madmikejt12

    thanks for reply

when double click, shows as drive, with no files listed

one other external drive does work

tried start > run, same response as double clicking

no access yet to another pc

when attempting to format, no error. pc hung for about 1 min then it stopped

i was going to suggest a repair install if nothing else worked.

can't find that model number, do you know the size and speed?
    e.g 80GB 7200rpm

also, what colour is it? (this may help me find it)

did you get any disks with the drive?

    Mike
