In reviewing your other posts I cannot find any mention of partitions

Can you link to the post(s)? I only recall the thread re: creating a new user.

Is this what you are referring to?

You cannot create a new Partition without third party software or else reinstalling XP.

Hi Jephree, thanks for your help. I'll start from the begining again and see if that helps, I bought a computer from a business firm that had gone into liquidation it's an IBM with xp pro already installed, when I click My Computer it has a programme on it called learner5's documents, when I click learner5's documents it comes up with the follwing in the address book:- C:\Documents and Settings\learner5\My Documents. and in the white panel below I have My eBooks, My Music, My Pictures, My Videos. So i downloaded some music into My Music and then went into nero to put it onto disk, when i pulled up the folder My Music in nero no files were showing except My Playlists and smaple music, but when I look in learner5 in My computer the files are still there. hope this helps
    Thanks

well in order to create partition u'll need proper software.
unfortunatelly i don't know any free/trial usefull version.
there is most popular software symantec ghost and disk director by acronis is cheaper and has more functions. i'd recommend u that

From our previous exchanges I thought that you were going to create a new account and just leave Learner5 alone.

What exactly did you do that: "when it came up it came on the screen as a blue screen with some sort of map in the background"

Am I correct in thinking that you have no XP Recovery disks for this IBM?

As I recall the IBM default User was/is Learner5 but you cannot access it?

Creating a new admin account is where I thought we were going.

To start from scratch you would need either IBM Recovery Disks or a retail version of a Windows Operating System or you could try Linux.

start > Control Panel > User Accounts

    Create a new account.

Be sure to create an Administrative Account.

Hi Jephree, Forgive the ignorance please but if I am on the right wavelength I presume that we are inlocal users and groups - users if that is the case, in that folder I have 5 accounts, 3 have a red xon them, the 5 come up as the following:-

    name full name description
Administrator Built-in account for administerating the computer/domain
Guest Built-in account for Guest access for the computer/domain
Helpassistant - remote desktop helpassistant - account for providing remote assistance
    Learner5
SUPPORT_38... - CN=Microsoft Corporation - this is a vendors account for help and support service

the 3 account with ax on the are Guest, Helpassistant and SUPPORT-38

As this is an IBM office computer you may be be seeing things different from myself.

An IBM loaded version of XP will differ from a Microsoft version as I have.

That being said: Administrator Built-in account for administrating the computer/domain is the main account for your computer and is hopefully uncorrupted.

If you login to that account and then go to start > Control Panel > User Accounts

Do you not see the option to: Create a New Account?

If not go to start > run: and type control userpasswords2

Here you should be able to add and remove accounts.

If you do not get logon options when you boot either:

In User Accounts: choose Change the way users logon or off

And UNcheck: Use the Welcome Screen

    OR:

In control userpasswords2 Check: Users must enter a name and password to use this computer.

You will then have to type in a particular User Name and Password.

To enter the: Administrator Built-in account for administrating the computer/domain

    Type: Administrator

If no password was ever set just press Enter. If a password was previously set and you do not know what it is then you have deeper problems.
