    File size

    Hi
I'm running out of space on C: and have been looking to see what has used up the space.

There's a folder called Windows all users with about 9GB in it. The application folder in this has used most space. In this is a folder called avg7data which takes up 8GB. This contains lots of files.

This seems to be a bit over the top, are all the files necessary or are they some form of backup? Thanks Malc

The windows all users folder is necessary for the operation of the computer. 9GB seems a bit much though.
The avg folder is your anti virus folder. Are you sure the avgdata folder contains 8gb of data? Did you right click the folder and click properties to get this amount?
My AVG folder only contains 8.5mb of data.

windows folder shou;d take up about 5GB max mine is 1.79

as Tassie said, 8gb is alot (or too much) for the avg folder. are you sure it is not mb?

you could try disk cleanup to free up some space (start>all programs>accessories>system tools>disk cleanup)

    Hope this helps,
    Mike

Yes it's definately 8GB. There are hundreds of files named $something.avg each 17.7 MB.

I'm thinking of deleting them and seeing what happens, I can always reinstall avg if things go wrong.

I would delete each of those 17.7mb files but only those ones. In the avg7data folder you should have folders like the picture below. I looked through mine and can't find any files like the ones you mentioned. Make sure you have the latest avg to reinstall if it ceases to work though.

I have the folders as above, the files are in the avg7data folder.

I have now deleted the files and will see what happens when the avg autoruns overnight. Could this autorun be generating the files? It autoruns every night.

No it shouldn't. The scan should only produce a very small log of the results. It will be interesting to see if they come back or if it was just an anomaly.

if u are out of space why don''t u backup ur data to another removable drive (say DVD).
backup is really great solution when storage is up to end.
    what do u think ?
