    Angry cd drive problem

Okay. I just got my motherboard replaced last week. In celebration i bought a new game, Oblivion. It would crash every so often. To see if i could fix the problem i put in the disk for the new motherboard. When i double clicked on the icon in my computer to open the disk, the computer took forever to open it up. Then when i tried to click on something it stopped responding. I ended the process through task manager and tried to return to playing my game. The drive refused to read the game. The drive was still on te hardware list and the drivers were still intact. I put in an audio cd and it read tjhat however the sound was scratchy and it skipped. I tried everything from removing the hardware from the hardware list to reloading the drivers to updating the firmware to even reinstalling windows. I have a dvd drive and an rw drive and they were both affected. I HAVE SPENT 3 DAYS TRYING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.

when you install a new motherboard, if it is a different one, i think you are supposed to do a clean install of xp, this is because the updates or something are specific to your motherboard. not 100% sure though, please wait for someone to confirm this

Yeah i figured that but both the drives worked, and by worked i mean played video game cd's and not just system disks or audio cd's, after the motherboard was installed. They stopped working just recently.

You said in your first post that you reinstalled Windows

A Clean Install of XP plus SP2 is essential on a new motherboard for stable performance.

yeah my computer was working. Everything was fine and up to date. Basically My drives stopped working when i tried to access the motherboard cd to look for something to stop a video game from erroring. If that even has anything to do with my drives not working i don't know, but i have uploaded, downloaded, rebooted, removed, reconfigured, and reformatted all the software that i could. I think that either the new power supply killed them, or that the problem lies deeper in the computer like maybe the bios or hal. I just can't figure out how to fix it.
