Do you know the exact eMachine model?

Otherwise that board looks like an AGP 4X which is fairly limited. Today's systems are AGP 8X if not PCI_E. Most AGP 8X cards will be backwards compatible with 4X but will only run at 4X speed.

Your current card is very limited: S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR [Display adapter]

Also your RAM at 256 (even if it is in good condition) is a bare minimum for a good running XP (especially with video programs). 512 would be recommended (at least).

And most important what is the eMachine Model e.g. T1110; W1700; eTower300 etc.

    Do you have the manual?

Otherwise look all over the case for some type of label.

Belarc only lists the motherboard: AM37 PCB 1.x

Your current Graphics Device is onboard. There is an AGP 4X slot for upgrade.

Graphics Connector (AGP) AGP 4X (1.5V only)

There is also a second RAM slot with a RAM capacity of 2GB:

    Memory Type DDR
    Memory Speed PC2100/PC1600
    Memory Sockets 2 DIMM
    Maximum Memory 2 GB

I would suggest upgrading both of these. I am amazed that you could do anything graphic intensive with your current setup.

I would suggest getting a matching 256 stick of RAM to your present.

Also an AGP 8X/4X card depending on your budget there is a wide range.

Another thing to consider is a new computer that will offer you the latest technology.

Opening the case: yes. Not the hard drive. The hard drive is in the case.

    Instructions in the guide: http://downloads.emachines.com/userg...xgen2_3_en.pdf

    Removing the Cover etc.
