Do CD's work OK?
XP does not have any inbuilt capability to play or burn DVD. You need a third party program.

Hello jephree.
Tjhanks for your reply - Answer to your question is - yes the CDs are ok - i loaded all my software that way such as antivirus and so on - its just that it will not recognise DVDs .
Could it be a faulty CD/DVD drive ?
Jim .

CD /DVD drives have 2 lasers. One for each. So the CD could be fine and the DVD not. This is possible.
But again you need software. Did you load a DVD program such as Nero or ULead? (just to mention 2).
