I have a logon problem with my Windows XP computer. When I logon, the screen says "loading personal settings, then jumps directly to the log off screen. My wife tries to logon under her password with the same results. Does anyone know the solution to this? We cannot access our computer and are both locked out. Need a quick solution.
Is this a new problem? Were things working OK previously? Any new hardware and or software?
Try booting into Safe Mode by repeatedly tapping the F8 key after your BIOS POST but before Windows starts.
From your option screen choose: Last known good configuration
bold I did not add any new hardware or software. Everything was fine until about 4 days ago when this started. I tried Safe Mode, but could not resolve anything there. Is there another way to get into a DOS prompt or other diagnostic area? If so, what would I do? I am trying to a avoid a costly service repair bill. I am hopeful for a remedy that could have me avoid that. Any ideas?Originally Posted by jephree
Can you get into Safe Mode?
If so try a System Restore to a point prior to the problem.
start > all programs > accessories > system tools > system restore
(or you might even be prompted to restore as you enter safe mode proper).
Try that first. If no go then what is the make and model of the computer and what XP disks do you have?
The Safe Mode does not gain me access. Every area of Safe Mode just brings me back to a logon screen. There was a few safe mode areas that also gave me an Administrator, but, I could not remember the Administrator's password. I am totally stuck. Is there anyone else who may have a suggestion?
If you set no password then just press Enter.
