My other computer won't start properly

I work for an alarm company and my main role is computer maintanence. One of our comps was running fine but one day when we came in it just wouldnt work. When i switch it on it runs through everything fine and boots properly, then when it gets to the screen where xp is loading it just resets (every time). so i changed the boot to run off the setup disk and tried to repair it through the recovery console but now that doesnt even work. it keeps saying theres a problem in: setupdd.sys PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA and tells me that there must be new hardware causing the problem but nothing has been added to it for about 6 months. can anyone help me, i would be so greatful.

setupdd.sys is part of the version detection code. It scans the files it has on the drive(s) and compares to its internal version database.

As you have not added any hardware one would suspect failing hardware. A first suspect would be the hard drive. Do you know the manufacturer? Most major brands have downloadable boot floppy diagnostics available at their web site.

You will find the major brand diagnostics listed here:

Another troubleshooting option is to remove all hardware but CPU; RAM; Graphics; HDD; CD drive. Nothing else. Also have the HDD set as Primary Master and the CD drive as Secondary Master.
