Exclamation VPN on Win XP generates error 720

I have lost the ability to establish a VPN connection from a laptop running Win XP Sp2. I get an error 720. I have been able to connect to the internet without VPN without difficulty. I was able to VPN in the past from this machine. A different machine on the same LAN suceeds.

I have deleted and recreated the VPN connectoid. This vpn connection is through a LAN. I did get an error when I ran the netdiag /test:winsock. I have followed MS knowledge base instructions to delete IP registry keys. This error was corrected after the restoration of TCP/IP via the knowledge base article. I have run Win Fix. I went further and followed instructions to delete WAN Miniport registry keys and "hidden" devices in the device manager and reinstall Miniport drivers for both PPTP and IP. I hoped that the problem was more related to the binding of PPTP to IP. I would like not to reinstall Windows. Any suggestions.

    Thanks.
