Broadband problem

    Angry Broadband problem

I am running XP home and AOL Broadband with a ADSL modem (supplied by AOL). I have recently had problems getting on to AOL and a message keeps popping up "local network connection cable unplugged" and I lose my connection (the DSL light on the modem either goes out or starts to flash). I have tried reinstalling AOL and the modem, but the problem still persists. I have also changed the filter in the phone socket. As I am relatively new to this sort of thing can anyone help using laymans terms. Thanks

"I have also changed the filter in the phone socket."

If you meant that there's a filter on your computer line, there shouldn't be. Filters are only installed where phones are connected, not your system/modem. This system/modem line goes straight into the phone line jack.

no the filter is there because we use a phone on the line as well. As it turns out it was the phone which was causing the problem. Our neighbour suggested we try another phone and everything started working again. All we have to do now is buy a new phone. Thanks for your help
