Software recovery tool not working
I was having trouble with Microsoft Works, so I went to PC Tools/Software Repair. It advised that you remove the bad version first so I did. What a tragic mistake! I went back to the tools program and ran the software recovery for Microsoft Works. At the end it said it was successfully reinstalled - but it LIED! I have totally lost my Works application now and I used it constantly!
Contacted HP, to make a long story short, they sent me the set of recovery disks and the supplemental disk for Media Center (since my PC is a Pavilion Media Center PC). I prepared to do the recovery (back-up, reading/studying instructions) and proceeded. I received a STOP error message (C0000218 - registry...corrupt file...)
HP sent me the recovery console disk and I finally got chkdsk /r to run with no significant outcome. I still can't get Works back!
I don't think HP has a clue since as of now I have probably relayed my issues to almost 20 different techs (No continuity whatsoever! And each seems to have a different approach to a solution!)
Please tell me you can help!

Since you can't seem to get Works back I recommend you download and install Open Office. This software is free and will allow you to do all you could do in Works or Word. Give it a try and let us know how you like it.

I thank you for your quick reply - the only thing is that that is an alternative, not a solution. I want to know so badly how I can get it back! I don't remember how or where, but I saw that it's still "in there" somewhere!
And see, Works has fantastic forms and templates, and an Excel-"look alike" and the ease of adding images, etc. I tried Open Office and my goodness, it's very complicated and complex. I ended up downloading Abi Words, which is okay, but it's the bare basics! I want my Works back!
