i have a problem with the font displayed in certain programs and dont know how to fix it. for example, when i use paint if i close without saving first, the window that comes up is in chinese or japanese, i dont know which. how can i change that so it is displayed in english again? tyvm for any help you can give me.

Go into control panel, regional and language options and make sure that everything is set to the correct language. reboot and try paint again. let us know how you get on.

i went to regional and lang settings and under the regional options tab, it is set to english. under the languages tab, nothing is checked under supplemental language support. under the advanced tab, the language for non-Unicode programs is also set for english. in the code page conversion tables there are numerous languages selected. it looks like everything else there is set to english. is there anything else i can try other then doing a go back to fix this?
