Hello, first let me apologise is this has already been asked before, I did do some searching and was surprised not to be able to find a similar thread.

My dad has Windows Media Centre and I was wondering if I can simpy put it on my computer.

Would I need to get in touch with Microsoft and pay extra? Possibly for a different key number?

Also does the fact that the two computers will be networked have any bearing??

You cannot put one key of XP on two computers.

You are basically buying the key. The CD comes with it so to speak. So you would have to buy another full copy of XP.

Regarding your network question: if you were just referring to less than 5 computers in a non-professional environment then you basically need one retail XP per computer.

If you are networking a Professional office with 5 or more computers then you can consider Volume Licensing:
