Notification Area Displays Wrong icons
Running WXP SP2: The notification area in the "Customize" window shows wrong icons from unrelated programs. For instance, I can't keep the "volume" speaker icon in place even though I've toggled "always show". Other icons are incorrect for the specified program. ????? I've downloaded and run Tweak UI from Microsoft, but it will not fix this problem. Advice?

Is this a new problem? Were things working OK previously? Any new hardware and or software?
If this is a new problem try a System Restore to a point prior to the problem:
start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
I can find no other precedent for your exact issue but you could try clearing the notification area in an attempt to reset it as seen here:

Thanks.
Following the Microsoft instructions you referenced on clearing past items from the notification area worked. The correct icons are now displayed and all is well. D-A-L has helped in the past with Windows 98 SE and it has helped once again. You are an excellent source for solving problems.
