    Pcshuts off after twenty minutes

Hello. My wife plays World Of Warcraft. Recently her cpu started shutting down after about twenty minutes of use. The unit has an AMD 1.8ghz processor, 1gig of memory, Maxtor 80gig harddrive. First, it would run OK for about an hour before it shut off. I changed the power supply and installed an extra cooling fan incase it was over heating. It still shuts off. The power supply I replaced was the same wattage (300) as the old one. The unit is not being overtaxed with a lot of addons. The only thing attached is a printer.

I was thinking that is WOW has put out a patch that may be causing the problem.

Any solution will be greatly appreciated.

If you have doubts about this patch try uninstalling it. Otherwise it if your Power Supply is indeed sufficient for the Graphics Card it sounds like a heat issue.

Have you run with the case open? Have you checked the fan on the Graphics Card? Have you felt the air off the fan for any noticeable heating?

What is the make and model of the Graphics Card? Was this game playing OK previously?

When you say shutting down what exactly happens? The computer just loses all power?

Thanks for the quick reply. I installed a 550 watt power supply and cleaned the CPU cooling fan heatsink. It wasn't that dirty but cleaning it will surely help. The unit has been on the entire day with no problems. I too felt it was a heat issue, but maybe a slight lack of power, so That is why I replaced the power supply. I also cleaned the Video Card cooling fan.

    So far, so good.

    Thank you

Thanks for the update and the thanks!

Sounds like you're in pretty good shape!

We've been seeing many similar issues where upgrading the Power Supply solved the issue.
