No icons , no toolbar, clear wallpaper after login
Hello ! I have Windows XP Pro PL SP2. And after logging in I (sometimes, not every time) find my desktop to be constantly clear - in other words there is wallpaper only, but nothing appears on this wallpapaer - no icons, no toolbatr, no menu start, nothing.
Could You tell me what to do?
I must also say that I already checked the system for any spyware with many programs, and in my opinion it is not the case of some spyware.
Please, give me some advice...
And one thing more. I don't want to boot computer from CD and make a repair because I already installed autopatcher from Jun 2006 (and other upgrades) and I would be afraid of taking such action.
Greetings

If this is a new problem try a System Restore to a point prior to the problem:
start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
You could also try check disk: start > run > cmd
in the new window type chkdsk /f
when prompted to run on boot choose Y & reboot
this will check for & fix any disk errors.
Also try start/run sfc /scannow (note the space between sfc & /scannow). You will need to insert your XP CD.
If the problem persists a Repair Install is about all you can do. You will just have to reinstall Windows Updates.
