explorer.exe shdocvw.dll shut down my laptop

    I keep getting a
Explorer.exe [message] unable to locate component

This application has failed to start because SHDOCVW.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

How do I locate this particular .dll ?

Is this a simple fix ? Or am I "Screwed" ?

Have I lost everything on my Laptop ?

When I go to open my laptop, this is as far as I can get.

I geuss what I"m attempting to find out is .. Can I get everything back to where it was ???

Or do i have to re-format this whole computer ?

    Thanks for any advise.

    BTW

    Windows XP Home OS

    Semperon 2600

    40 Gig HD

Do you need any other information?

    Thank-you

Try booting into Safe Mode by repeatedly tapping the F8 key after your BIOS POST but before Windows starts.

First try Last Known Good Configuration.

If that doesn't work try Safe Mode/System Restore

What is the exact make and model of the laptop?

I would check the manual for the options of your Recovery Disks.

You can download SHDOCVW.dll http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dl....shtml?shdocvw but I would check your Recovery Options first.

We might be able to find more info online if we have the exact make and model.

In a worse case scenario you can extract the drive to get your data but I don't think that this error is that critical and can be fixed.
