    Com hangs when left idle!!!

Hi guys, need a bit of help here.

I have a Windows Xp Pro system, 2.4 Gigs and 256 MB ram. The com will just hang if i leave it idle for few minutes. I have deactivated all the 'auto hard drive off ' options and stuff like that but still it hangs. I have a Zonelabs firewall too. What is the problem?
Is it a software clinch or what?

Is this a new problem? Any related issues; new software? hardware? SP2?

    Yeah it is.

I just got a new network card (1 MBpS).Since then, the com's start up has been really slow. The taskbar freezes up for a few minutes before i can use it. No new software i can think of.

It seems to hang after a standard time but i cant seem to deactivate whatever is causing it. I have unchecked Hibernation, 'Auto hard drive off ' and 'auto stand by' , but it still hangs .

Erm...not sure if this has anything to do with it, but when i do a Norton Antivirus Scan it hangs when it scans Windows\DriverCache\i1386. I know it is probably a virus but how am i supposed to get rid of it when i cant even scan it???

    Do you have SP2?

As far as the card; check its status under "Device Manager"
(rt. click my computer then "manage" "device manager" rt. cliclk the card & check "properties" try upgrade drivers.

Have you checked your cards' site for any driver upgrades etc. ?

    Sorry for more questions but:

    1. Do you have SP2 installed? (I have seen issues with sp2 & i1386 files)

    2. What are the specs of your network card? (Have you searched their site for any info?)

    3. Do you still have your old card? (Try to put it back & see what happens?)

I would try a different anti-virus. See if there are any free trials available. There is always AVG (free anti-virus) I would then try a reg scan with one of the many reg scan softwares out there. If that didn't work, and you think it is the card you just installed, pull the card, uninstall the drivers, reboot, and see if the machine still hangs.
