    Registry Cleaner

    Hello Jephree,

Can you clarifi something for me?

I stopped using Norton AV a little while ago and now use AVG freebie.

I also use XPs system restore instead of Notton's Go Back.

I was reading through this codek inquiry

If say while altering the registery I screwed up and had to use system restore, is it still nessarry for me to use a registry back up programe before I alter the registery

I downloaded Reg Seeker and ran it, boy did it come up with a stack of entries.

Just to make certain, are you saying anything that comes back in green is totaly safe to deleate for example HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT acrobat\default icon ( file or path does not exist ), or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE something, something (help file does not exist), any files like these in green are safe to deleate?

    Johanus,

I have used RegSeeker for years without any issues. It does create its' own backups but I also use ENRUNT periodically as it is a very comprehensive tool. Its' companion program NTREGOPT is also a great Registry Optimizer.

The green light in RegSeeker is safe to go. The red light is usually exception rules built into the program. The listings are still not valid but their source is questioned. These rules are usually on Anti Virus files as well as Installer files.

One way to tweak the cleaning is to clean all green then scan again and clean all. This will create two separate backups.

In general if you've never run a cleaner before you will get hundreds of finds on a first clean.

And although System Restore is a great tool it is not always guaranteed to work. There are many factors which can compromise System Restore and thus it is in itself not a terribly trust worthy back-up.

    Hello Jephree,

Gosh,I will never not do a reg back up again, I will always used Go Back or lately system restore

As always a big thankyou, when you say green light, red light do you mean green writing, red writing.

Yes the green and red writing. Also when you click Select All you get the option of All Green; All Red; or All.
